NYC 20 Milers

I grew up outside of New York City, so for me, when I think about what running through the city is like, I categorize it into three buckets.

  • Short runs in any given neighborhood (mostly uneventful)
  • Running in Central Park
    • A category in and of itself because Central Park is awesome, and there’s always some new nook and cranny to explore there
  • Long, exploring runs through the city
    • Keep reading…

Enchantments from 37k

The Enchantments at 37,000 feet. High alpine lakes, sheer granite walls, golden larches, mountain goats, serenity, isolation, and some of the most beautiful and demanding terrain in Washington State. Still covered in snow, but May and June’s heat and rain should melt things out before we know it. #enchantments #mountains #flying #mountaingoating

Rainier – Crevasse Rescue Course

There’s always at least one good lesson learned for every trip I go on. It’s only appropriate then, that when a few of us went out for the trip of our Glacier/Crevasse Rescue course, the lessons we learned from our AIARE course were one of the most important things reinforced that weekend, in addition to how to rescue myself and my team out of a crevasse.

Multitasking

Multi-tasking: going home, training, enjoying the good weather outside, and having a beer with the lady. A 15 mile run from work in Bellevue back home to Seattle with a beer stop at mile 14 with @kaytlyn1579. Not a bad way to kick off the work week! #running #beer #marathontraining #commute

JunkIntheTrunk

How to fit four split boarders, a tele skier, and all their gear into one car for a weekend. Headed to #rainier for some crevasse rescue practice in crappy weather. #splitboarding #junkinthetrunk

2K to the Trailhead

Another one from this weekend. The first four miles of our trail run had us gaining about 2000 feet. Stopping to grab a photo of icicle canyon was a great excuse to take a water break and momentarily let the burn in my legs subside. #trailrunning #mountaingoating #leavenworth

Slabby Fun

@kaytlyn1579 leading up a fun, slabby route this weekend in #leavenworth. #mountaingoating

Prussiking

@kaytlyn1579 getting her prussik on. Great time tonight at the Glacier Travel course, practicing how to climb the rope if we’d fault into a crevasse. #mountaineering #glaciers #volcanoseason

Early Season Climbing

After a whirlwind of a few weeks, we finally jetted out of town and did some climbing at Vantage.

The weather was perfect.
Getting in Friday night, we had a warm (and windy) night camping under clear skies staring at Mars and debating which constellations were where.

The next morning, an early start got us some solitude and our first outdoor leads of the season.

Can’t wait to get back here later in early summer, between our various volcano adventures.
